Central Rome walking tour 

Monte Soratte. North of Rome lies the massive bunker that served as Nazi HQ throughout the Battle for Rome. 

Via Tasso. Was the location of the Nazi torture chambers in Rome. Now the Liberation museum.

Ardeatine Caves. Site of a Nazi Massacre of over 300 Italian civilians.

EUR. Site of Mussolini’s Third Rome – a new city to be opened on the twentieth anniversary of Fascist rule.

Forum Italico. Mussolini’s city of Sport. The complex still has many reminders of its Fascist Origins.

22nd January: Anzio Landings 1944 – Nettuno/Anzio Annual Remembrance “From the Landings to the Liberation”.


15th February: Anniversary of the bombing of the Abbey of Monte Cassino. Commemorated at the Abbey on significant anniversaries.


24th March: Anniversary of the Massacre at the Ardeatine Caves in Rome. Annual Commemoration Ceremony.


25th April: WW2 Liberation day – Italy National Holiday. 25th April 1945 – Italian Partisans in Milan call for final uprising.


12th May: Annual “Bombing Day “ at Monte Soratte. 1944 US Bombers attack Nazi HQ as the final battle of Monte Cassino begins.
18th May: The fourth and final battle for Monte Cassino took place from May 11th to May 18th 1944. Commemorative events are held around these dates. Polish Cemetery Commemoration often on the 18th of May.


25th May: USA Memorial Day – Ceremonies at US cemetery in Nettuno near the date.


4th June: Anniversary of the Liberation of Rome. 1944 US troops enter Rome. Commemorated on important anniversaries.


16th October: Nazi raid on the Rome Jewish Ghetto in 1943. Remembrance ceremonies near the date.


11th October: Armistice day. Rome memorial at Commonwealth cemetery near the date
