Rome44.com was founded by WW2 history buffs with the aim of bringing the story of the WW2 Battle for Rome to a wider public. The Second World War in Italy is sometimes described as the forgotten campaign, overshadowed by the D-Day Landings in Normandy. We believe it is a fascinating chapter of the war and a fascinating chapter in the history of the eternal city. The WW2 Battle for Rome began on the 17th of January 1944 with the US Fifth Army’s attack on the Gustav Line at Monte Cassino  and ended on the 4th of June 1944 with the Fifth Army’s triumphal entry into Rome.

We have created itineraries such as the WW2 Central Rome Walking Tour and the WW2 Rome – Cassino – Anzio – Rome day trip.  The guides are professional Rome tour guides, with a passion for WW2 history, who have been given Rome44 training and resources.
